San Francisco-based Decart makes software that lets developers switch more easily between different AI chips. The capability is becoming increasingly important as companies compete to secure more computing power.

Amazon has also built its own custom AI chip, Trainium3, to compete with Nvidia. Nvidia continues to dominate the market for graphics processing units, the specialised chips that power the AI boom.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Amazon Web Services gave Decart early access to Trainium3 in 2025, after meeting the company and being impressed by its founders.

Decart raised $300m in a funding round in May, led by Radical Ventures and its co-founder Jordan Jacobs. The round lifted the company’s total funding to more than $450m and valued it at nearly $4bn.

Amazon is not the only company reported to have discussed buying the startup. In August 2026, Bloomberg reported that Anthropic was in talks over a potential acquisition of Decart AI, which it described as Nvidia-backed.

In September 2026, Anthropic had decided not to proceed, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The deal would have valued Decart AI at around $6bn. It was reportedly under discussion the previous month but did not move forward.

Decart was founded in 2023 by three Israeli engineers: brothers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf, and Moshe Shalev. The company is also developing world models called Lucy and Oasis. World models can generate and simulate real-world 3D environments.
