That’s right folks, it’s the most joyous day of the year: Amazon Prime Day.

For one day only, Amazon will be clearing out its warehouses of all the stuff that no one bought when it was first listed. And if you’re the type who has been desperately hoping to get a bargain on a 400ml bottle of WD-40 Specialist Motorbike Chain Lube, then you should be very excited indeed!

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is a day of discounts and offers exclusively for Amazon Prime customers on the world’s favourite online store. The event is every year in July.

Simply put, Amazon Prime Day is a bit like an online version of Black Friday, or a summery version of Cyber Monday (which is the online version of Black Friday). However, the twist is that all the deals and discounts are time-limited and product-limited. If you see something you want you have to snag it really quick before it sells out, or the time-limit expires.

New items are discounted at five minute intervals across the day. You’ll usually have a few hours to grab a bargain once the deal goes live.

Simply go onto the Amazon Prime Day site check out the deals and click ‘Add to watch list’ which is displayed beneath each one. This will send you an email as soon as the offer goes live, then you can nip onto Amazon and buy it. Easy!

However, it’s worth remembering that Amazon Prime Day is only available to Amazon Prime customers. If you’re not a Prime customer, there are no deals for you.

When is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon holds Prime Day every year in mid-July. The exact date does tend to move around a bit. Hey, if it’s good enough for Easter, it’s good enough for Amazon Prime Day!

This year, Amazon Prime Day is on 16th July. And while most festive occasions are all day, Amazon Prime Day doesn’t officially begin until noon.

From there, deals will continue to launch all the way until midnight (and a few go beyond).

Amazon Prime Day watch-list for tech:

A few deals have started already. These include Amazon Dash buttons, which are reduced from £4.99 to £1.99 all day, 20% off Amazon branded essentials, 20% off Amazon Basics homeware and 30% off Iris Lily women’s wear.

You can also get four months of Prime Music for £0.99 and three months of Kindle Unlimited for free.

On top of Amazon’s own deals, there are offers from Amazon Pay-powered third parties, including London Theatre Direct, All Saints, See Tickets, Tastecard and QuoteMeHappy.com.

You can also get an extra 20% off Amazon’s warehouse offers, which are already bargains.
