This week will see millions change hands as valuable jewels, art and collectibles go under the hammer at some of the world’s biggest auction houses.

The likes of auction giants Sotheby’s and Christie’s will be holding events. Likewise, the Art for Grenfell auction, seeking to raise money for the families of victims caught in a fire in a London tower block, will go ahead on Monday.

Guide price: £170,000-£200,000

A Belge Noir marble armchair from popular Dutch designer Joris Laarman’s Bone Furniture series will go under the hammer at Sotheby’s Design: Living in a Material World auction in London, England on Tuesday, 17 October.

Mullock’s will be auctioning off a letter from Mahatma Gandhi penned for his son, Harilal, in the Gujerati language. Guide price: £3,000-£5,000

Here’s your chance to own a piece of cinema history. A clapperboard used in James Cameron’s box office hit Titanic goes up for sale. Henry Aldridge will sell the memorabilia as part of their Titan, White Star and Liner Memorabilia Auction on Saturday, 21 October.

On-board Titanic letter

Guide price: £60,000-£80,000

If movie memorabilia isn’t your forte, Henry Aldridge will also be auctioning off various pieces that were recovered from the infamous ship. This letter, recovered from a victim’s body, was written while on-board the doomed vessel. It will sell at Henry Aldridge’s Titan, White Star and Liner Memorabilia Auction on Saturday, 21 October.

Julien’s Street, Contemporary & Celebrity Art auction will see a rough sketch of the Empire State Building penned by President of the United States Donald Trump auctioned off. The piece will be sold in Los Angeles, California on Thursday, 19 October. A similar sketch sold for $9,000 earlier this year.

Jean Michel Basquat’s Untitled broke the record for a United States-based artist earlier this year, selling for $110m. Another of the famed artist’s works will go under the hammer at Julien’s this week for considerably less. The marker pen sketch, Untitled Portrait with Crown, will sell in Los Angeles, California on Thursday, 19 October as part of the Street, Contemporary & Celebrity Art auction.
