France’s technology industry sees a drop of 7.1% in deal activity in January 2020

France’s technology industry saw a drop of 7.1% in overall deal activity during January 2020, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 39 deals worth $630.74m were announced in January 2020, compared to the 12-month average of 42 deals.

Venture financing was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 24 deals which accounted for 61.5% of all deals.

In second place was M&A with 12 deals, followed by private equity with three transactions, respectively accounting for 30.8% and 7.7% of overall deal activity in the country’s technology industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in France’s technology industry with total deals worth $238.94m, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $200m and $191.81m, respectively.

France technology industry deals in January 2020: Top deals

The top five technology industry deals accounted for 83.9% of the overall value during January 2020.

The combined value of the top five technology deals stood at $528.94m, against the overall value of $630.74m recorded for the month.

The top five technology industry deals of January 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Glory Global Solutions (International)’s $220.44m acquisition of Acrelec Group

2) The $200m private equity deal with EcoVadis by CVC Growth Partners Fund II

3) Bpifrance Large Venture, Famille C, Goldman Sachs Growth Equity, IDInvest Partners and Iris Capital Management’s $70m venture financing of LumApps

4) The $20m venture financing of KIT United(Hivebrite) by Insight Partners

5) Cornerstone OnDemand’s acquisition of Clustree for $18.5m.
