North America’s technology industry saw a rise of 6.8% in overall deal activity during Q2 2019, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 2040 deals worth $86.35bn were announced for the region during Q2 2019, against the last four-quarter average of 1910 deals.

Of all the deal types, venture financing saw most activity in Q2 2019 with 1269, representing a 62.2% share for the region.

In second place was M&A with 618 deals, followed by private equity deals with 153 transactions, respectively capturing a 30.3% and 7.5% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in North America’s technology industry with $47.56bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $23.25bn and $15.53bn, respectively.

The top five technology deals accounted for 54.5% of the overall value during Q2 2019.

The combined value of the top five technology deals stood at $47.05bn, against the overall value of $86.35bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced technology deal tracked by GlobalData in Q2 2019 was Salesforce.Com’s $15.7bn acquisition of Tableau Software.

In second place was the $14.3bn private equity deal with Zayo Group Holdings by Digital Colony Management and EQT Infrastructure IV Fund and in third place was Infineon Technologies’ $10.05bn acquisition of Cypress Semiconductor.

The $4.4bn acquisition of Epsilon Data Management by Publicis Groupe and Google’s acquisition of Looker Data Sciences for $2.6bn held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
