Nvidia and MediaTek have announced an expansion of their long-standing partnership to develop the next generation of AI computing platforms.

The collaboration will cover areas spanning AI infrastructure, local AI computing, and automotive applications.

As part of this development, MediaTek will adopt Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion platform, a technology designed to assist hyperscalers, cloud service providers, and developers in integrating custom XPUs with Nvidia NVLink-connected, rack-scale AI systems.

Alongside the technology integration, Nvidia has invested $3.5bn in convertible bonds issued by MediaTek.

Both firms plan to combine Nvidia’s expertise in accelerated computing, AI, graphics, and software platforms with MediaTek’s capabilities in custom silicon, high-performance computing, system-on-chip design, advanced packaging, and connectivity.

The collaboration spans three core areas. In AI infrastructure, MediaTek will join Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion ecosystem, enabling customers to build customised AI infrastructure that integrates with Nvidia’s rack-scale systems.

Regarding local AI computing, the companies will co-develop multiple generations of Nvidia RTX Spark and DGX Spark PC chips for consumer PCs, developer supercomputers and enterprise workstations, which combine Nvidia GPUs and MediaTek-designed SoCs.

In the automotive sector, the partnership aims to produce platforms for vehicles featuring AI-powered and software-defined functions.

By adopting the NVLink Fusion platform, MediaTek will help customers develop custom AI accelerators, providing a prevalidated foundation for multi-die XPU design and for integration into larger, rack-scale systems.

The NVLink Fusion offering incorporates chiplet technologies, memory integration, and high-bandwidth interconnects such as NVLink-C2C and Nvidia NVHBM.

The companies also outlined their efforts in automotive computing, where MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto platforms will use Nvidia technologies to enable advanced AI and graphics features for intelligent vehicle cockpits.

MediaTek vice chairman and CEO Rick Tsai said: “Nvidia’s investment strengthens a collaboration that spans cloud AI infrastructure, local AI computing and automotive in the era of physical AI.

“By combining Nvidia’s leadership in accelerated computing and AI software ecosystem with MediaTek’s expertise in a diverse AI technology portfolio from edge to cloud, and our leadership position in custom silicon, we can accelerate innovation for our customers.”

Both firms indicated that their collaboration would continue across multiple future product generations, supporting cloud AI factories, local AI computers and automotive systems.

Last month, Nvidia unveiled the Jetson Orin Nano 2, an entry-level edge AI robotics computer, with the module and developer kit set for release in the first half of 2027.
