The top five companies accounted for 9% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Huawei Investment filed the most cybersecurity patents within the technology industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 430 cybersecurity-related patents in the quarter, compared with 508 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Samsung Group with 428 cybersecurity patent filings, Qualcomm (356 filings), and Microsoft (242 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 42% share of total patent filings
The largest share of cybersecurity related patent filings in the technology industry in Q2 2024 was in China with 42%, followed by the US (30%) and Japan (3%). The share represented by China was 3% lower than the 45% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
