May 2021 has seen an increase of 1.58% in the overall hiring activity when compared with April 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 28.03% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in May 2021, registering decrease of 0.72% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in May 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in South & Central America with a share of 69.76% in May 2021, a 2.34% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 9.58% in May 2021, marking a 23.08% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 8.2% in May 2021, a 28.33% growth from April 2021.

Top five technology companies in South & Central America’s IT recruitment activity in May 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 1.68% in the overall IT recruitment activity of South & Central America’s technology industry during May 2021 over previous month.

International Business Machines posted 222 IT jobs in May 2021 and registered a an increase of 35.37% over the previous month, followed by Dell Technologies with 111 jobs and a 13.95% drop. TOTVS with 69 IT jobs and Xchanging with 38 jobs, recorded a 15% growth and a 67.8% drop, respectively, while PT Smartfren Telecom, Tbk. recorded a 383.33% an increase with 29 job postings during May 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in South & Central America’s technology industry

Brazil commanded a leading presence in the region’s technology industry IT hiring activity with a 40.15% share in May 2021, a 2.45% rise over April 2021. Jamaica featured next with a 17.57% share, up 22.22% over the previous month. Colombia recorded an 11.29% share, a growth of 100% compared with April 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 71.25%, down by 12.32% from April 2021. Mid Level positions with a 19.6% share, a growth of 60% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 8.73% share, up 18.84% over April 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.43%, recording a month-on-month decline of 50%.
