Technology industry M&A deals in December 2020 total $69.81bn globally

Total technology industry M&A deals in December 2020 worth $69.81bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 20.03% over the previous month and a rise of 35.9% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $51.38bn.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $46.33bn. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $45.88bn.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for technology industry M&A deals globally, followed by Europe and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in December 2020 was the US with 256 deals, followed by the UK with 55 and China with 45.

In 2020, as of the end of December 2020, technology M&A deals worth $634.11bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 91.8% year on year.

The top five technology industry M&A deals accounted for 61.1% of the overall value during December 2020.

The combined value of the top five technology M&A deals stood at $42.66bn, against the overall value of $69.81bn recorded for the month.

The top five technology industry deals of December 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Salesforce.Com’s $27.7bn acquisition of Slack Technologies

2) The $4.49bn acquisition of Siltronic by GlobalWafers

3) Flutter Entertainment’s $4.18bn acquisition of Fanduel

4) The $3.2bn asset transaction with Oi by Claro, Telefonica Brasil and TiM

5) The merger of Line and Shiodome Z Holdings for $3.1bn.
