The UK technology industry saw a rise of 6.4% in overall deal activity during Q2 2019, when compared with the last four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 335 deals worth $6.54bn were announced in Q2 2019, compared to the last four-quarter average of 315 deals.
Venture financing was the leading category in the quarter with 171 deals which accounted for 51.04% of all deals.
In second place was M&A with 124 deals, followed by private equity with 40 transactions, respectively accounting for 37.01% and 11.9% of overall deal activity in the country’s technology industry during the quarter.
In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the UK technology industry with total deals worth $4.78bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $933.77m and $830.97m, respectively.
The UK technology industry deals in Q2 2019: Top deals
The top five technology deals accounted for 70.2% of the overall value during Q2 2019.
The combined value of the top five technology industry deals stood at $4.59bn, against the overall value of $6.54bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced UK technology industry deal tracked by GlobalData in Q2 2019 was Ion Investment Group’s $1.76bn acquisition of Acuris Group.
In second place was the $771.85m acquisition of Unicorn Investment by JMU and in third place was Humber Bidco’s $734.7m acquisition of KCOM Group.
The $709.38m private equity deal with KCOM Group by MEIF six Fibre and JPJ Group’s asset transaction with Gamesys for $623.05m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
