The UK technology industry registered a 0.2% decline in IT hiring activity in July 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 2.81% in July 2021 compared with June 2021.
Out of the technology industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 24.25% share in July 2021, recording decrease of 0.93% over the last three-month average share.
Top five job classifications in the UK technology industry’s IT recruitment activity in July 2021
Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 95.24% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK technology industry in July 2021.
1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 57.62% in July 2021, a 20.71% drop over the previous month.
2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed an 11.9% share, decline of 2.12% over the previous month.
3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 11.83%, registering a 3.16% decline from June 2021.
4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 7.14%, up 21.98% over the previous month.
Top five technology companies in the UK IT recruitment activity in July 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 15.87% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK technology industry during July 2021 over June 2021.
Comcast posted 98 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a drop of 19.67% over the previous month, followed by Vodafone Group with 96 jobs and a 15.79% drop. Jacobs Engineering Group with 57 IT jobs and Capgemini with 51 jobs, recorded a 72.73% growth and a 32% decline, respectively, while Yelp recorded a 33.33% decline with 48 job postings during July 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.69%, down by 14.58% from June 2021. Mid Level positions with a 22.12% share, a decline of 8.02% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 10.87% share, up 28.03% over June 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.32%, recording a month-on-month decline of 77.27%.

Country and industry are defined according to the headquarters and dominant industry of the target firm. The term ‘acquisition’ refers to both completed deals and those in the bidding stage.
