The value marked an increase of 21.5% over the previous quarter and a rise of 222.7% when compared with the last four-quarter average of $18.59bn.

The UK held a 24.7% share of the global technology industry M&A deal value that totalled $243.37bn in Q4 2020.

In terms of deal activity, the UK recorded 159 deals during Q4 2020, marking a rise of 32.5% over the previous quarter and a rise of 33.6% over the last four-quarter average.

The combined value of the top five technology M&A deals stood at $58.31bn, against the overall value of $60bn recorded for the quarter.

The top five technology industry deals of Q4 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

2) The $11.69bn asset transaction with CK Hutchison Holdings by Cellnex Telecom

3) Take-Two Interactive Software’s $999.12m acquisition of The Codemasters SoftwareLtd

4) The $888.08m acquisition of GoCo Group by Future

5) Cisco Systems Holdings UK’s acquisition of IMImobile for $729.23m.
