Some 20 locations in China have been selected to participate in a pilot program for the rollout of “vehicle-road-cloud-integration” for smart cars, China’s minister for industry said in a statement on Wednesday (3 July).

The country is aiming to build a national shared standard system for vehicle-road-cloud integration by 2026.

The technology will provide the infrastructure in China needed to put smart connected cars on the road.

Beijing and Shanghai are included in the chosen locations for the pilot program.

According to GlobalData report, Wheels of Change, Start-ups Revolutionising Mobility, AI, the internet of things (IoT) and 5G, such new technologies have sped up the evolution and safety of the connected vehicle industry.

In the automotive sector, these technologies support autonomous driving, connected car services, over-the-air updates, predictive maintenance, and telematics systems.
