Europe’s technology industry saw a drop of 3.8% in overall deal activity during Q2 2020, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 1103 deals worth $43.64bn were announced for the region during Q2 2020, against the last four-quarter average of 1146 deals.

Of all the deal types, venture financing saw most activity in Q2 2020 with 629, representing a 57.03% share for the region.

In second place was M&A with 361 deals, followed by private equity deals with 113 transactions, respectively capturing a 32.7% and 10.2% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in Europe’s technology industry with $28.52bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $11.59bn and $3.52bn, respectively.

The top five technology deals accounted for 67.9% of the overall value during Q2 2020.

The combined value of the top five technology deals stood at $29.65bn, against the overall value of $43.64bn recorded for the quarter.

The top five technology industry deals of Q2 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) The merger of O2 Holding and Virgin Media for $18.82bn

2) The $5.55bn private equity deal with Masmovil Ibercom by Cinven Capital Management, KKR &Inc, Lorca Telecom Bidco, S.A.U and Providence Equity Partners

4) The $1.72bn private equity deal with Infrastrutture Wireless Italiane by Ardian Holding and Canson Capital Partners
