North America witnessed a 9.6% rise in IT hiring activity in the technology industry in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.
September 2021 has seen an increase of 7.58% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 27.22% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2021, registering an increase of 0.66% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 73.2% in September 2021, a 15.12% rise over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 9.07% in September 2021, marking a 1.7% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 7.13% in September 2021, a 7.89% rise from August 2021.
Computer Support Specialists registered a share of 4.95% in September 2021, a 0.24% decline over the previous month.
Top five technology companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 77.69% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s technology industry during September 2021 over previous month.
International Business Machines posted 5,178 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered an increase of 231.07% over the previous month, followed by Dell Technologies with 2,197 jobs and an 80.38% growth. Cognizant Technology Solutions with 1,072 IT jobs and AT&T with 1,041 jobs, recorded a 9.76% drop and a 9.01% rise, respectively, while Nippon Telegraph and Telephone recorded a 3.43% increase with 1,026 job postings during September 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s technology industry
The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s technology industry IT hiring activity with a 90.86% share in September 2021, a 12.69% increase over August 2021. Canada featured next with a 7.67% share, up 1.09% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 1.47% share, a drop of 11.39% compared with August 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 53.41%, up by 8.7% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 35.11% share, registered a growth of 12.16% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 10.82% share, up 23.37% over August 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.65%, recording a month-on-month decline of 0.45%.
