Total technology industry M&A deals in July 2020 worth $49.93bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 230.4% over the previous month and a rise of 131.7% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $21.55bn.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $36.99bn. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $36.7bn.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for technology industry M&A deals globally, followed by Europe and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in July 2020 was the US with 151 deals, followed by the UK with 38 and China with 30.

In 2020, as of the end of July 2020, technology M&A deals worth $157.14bn were announced globally, marking a decrease of 22.7% year on year.

The top five technology industry M&A deals accounted for 72.9% of the overall value during July 2020.

The combined value of the top five technology M&A deals stood at $36.38bn, against the overall value of $49.93bn recorded for the month.

The top five technology industry deals of July 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) Analog Devices’ $20.45bn acquisition of Maxim Integrated Products

2) The $6.8bn merger of Clarivate Analytics (US) and CPA Global by

3) Tencent Holdings’ $3.5bn acquisition of Sogou

4) The $2.94bn asset transaction with Oi by Highline do Brasil II Infraestrutura de Telecomunicacoes

5) New Wave MMXV’s acquisition of SINA for $2.7bn.
