A recently filed patent (Publication Number: US20230204651A1) describes a cartridge for electronic devices that allows for testing and measurement of light emission. The cartridge includes an electronic device holder with a formation to securely hold the electronic device, which has an input contact and a light emitter. The input contact on the holder connects to the input contact on the device, providing electric power that causes the light emitter to transmit light. The cartridge also features a light detector mounted on the holder, which detects the light and generates an output electric power based on its magnitude. An output contact is connected to the light detector to measure the output electric power.

In one embodiment, the electronic device holder defines a cavity that directs and transmits the light emitted by the device to the light detector. The cavity surfaces may also have a light absorbing coating. The cartridge further includes a socket and a lid that together form the electronic device holder. A pusher plate, mounted for movement relative to the lid, allows the electronic device to move the pusher plate, enabling the transmission of light from the emitter to the detector through an opening in the pusher plate. A spring, connected between the lid and the pusher plate, allows for linear movement and deformation of the spring when the pusher plate is moved by the electronic device.

Additionally, the cartridge may include a temperature modification device on one side of the device holder, which can change the temperature of the electronic device and create a temperature differential. A heat sink on the opposing side of the holder absorbs the light emitted by the device, generating heat. A heat dissipation device is thermally connected to the heat sink to remove the generated heat.

The patent also describes a method of testing electronic devices using the cartridge. The method involves inserting an electronic device into the holder, connecting the input contacts, providing electric power to the device to emit light, detecting and transforming the detected light into output electric power, measuring the output power through an output contact, and finally removing the electronic device from the holder.

Overall, this patent presents a cartridge design that allows for the testing and measurement of light emission from electronic devices, providing a convenient and efficient solution for evaluating the performance of such devices.
