ChatGPT developer OpenAI has introduced its latest AI model, GPT-5.2, designed to deliver enhanced features in general intelligence, coding capabilities, and long-context understanding.

This release follows CEO Sam Altman’s strategic decision earlier this month to expedite development efforts in response to Google’s Gemini 3, which was launched last month.

OpenAI’s GPT-5.2 initiated deployment in ChatGPT for paid subscribers, on Thursday 11 December 2025.

This new flagship model of OpenAI is trained for enterprise tasks, offering improved accuracy and instruction adherence. It is particularly effective for applications involving complex workflows, such as spreadsheet creation and presentation building.

It enhances token efficiency on medium-to-complex tasks and benefits from explicit scope constraints, ensuring concise outputs.

GPT-5.2 is well-suited for production environments requiring reliability and consistent performance across various domains like coding and document analysis.

OpenAI claims that GPT-5.2 often matches or surpasses existing models in task completion while remaining adaptable in tone and output format.

Compared to its predecessors, GPT-5.2 introduces deliberate scaffolding by default, reduces verbosity, and improves instruction adherence. It also optimises tool actions in interactive scenarios and favours explicit reasoning, enhancing ambiguity handling through clarification prompts.

OpenAI and Disney forge new partnership for generative AI video content

In a related development, OpenAI has partnered with Walt Disney to become the initial content licensing collaborator for its Sora generative AI video platform. This three-year agreement allows Sora to create short social videos featuring over 200 characters from Disney’s franchises, including Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars.

The collaboration excludes talent likenesses or voices but includes a variety of props and iconic settings.

Concurrently, Disney plans to integrate OpenAI’s APIs into new products and experiences for Disney+, utilising ChatGPT for employee engagement. As part of this deal, Disney will invest $1bn in OpenAI and acquire warrants for additional equity, contingent upon final agreements and necessary approvals.

Sam Altman said: “Disney is the global gold standard for storytelling, and we’re excited to partner to allow Sora and ChatGPT Images to expand the way people create and experience great content.

“This agreement shows how AI companies and creative leaders can work together responsibly to promote innovation that benefits society, respect the importance of creativity, and help works reach vast new audiences.”
