E3 2018 conference schedule e3 2018 rumours

Confirmed:

  • Death Stranding – We still have no idea what Death Stranding even is, but it’s coming to E3 2018. Sony has confirmed that the new game from legendary designer Hideo Kojima is on the way. Still, aside from that we know nothing. Last year we saw a baffling cinematic trailer that gave no indication as to what the game could be about. Hopefully Sony will use its conference time to lift the veil on this one a little.
  • Ghost of Tsushima – We know its going to be an open-world game set in feudal Japan, but not much more than that. This could be a serious sleeper hit if Sony plays its cards right.
  • Spider-Man – The release date for this much-hyped game is September 2018, so E3 will be the last big push for marketing with this one. Safe to say, Sony will be going hard with this game, which looks like it could be the best superhero game since the Batman Arkham series. Expect to see some new character reveals and perhaps a little more detail on what the game’s story will entail.
  • The Last of Us Part II – We know it’ll be set in Portland and Seattle, we know Joel and Ellie are returning as the protagonists, we know you’ll play as Ellie rather than Joel, and we know the development team behind the game are mostly the same. But aside from those tidbits, we don’t know much. The trailer for The Last Of Us Part II was a violent, gory spectacle which gave no further clues. Since then there’s been a few updates. The developers claim The Last Of Us Part II will focus on the theme of ‘hate’. Expect big things here.

Almost certain:

  • Days Gone  – Having popped up at E3 for the past two years, it’d be surprising for Sony’s biker-vs-zombies game not to make an appearance this time around. Still, given its thematic similarity to The Last Of Us Part II (both are triple A zombie themed survival games) they might be stationed at opposite ends of Sony’s press conference. Or perhaps Days Gone will be downplayed a little and discussed in some other context.
  • Dreams – Development on this one seems to have taken a while. 2016 saw the first look at this new adventure from the creators of LittleBigPlanet and since then it’s gone quiet. Either way, it’ll almost certainly be there in some form. It sounds quite similar to LittleBigPlanet too, so if you enjoyed that, you’ll probably love this.
  • MediEvil remaster – Announced last year, Sony hasn’t mentioned this since. Still, it’s a fairly safe bet to assume this remaster of the cult 1998 game will show up at this year’s conference. Anything is possible here, but expect great graphics and plenty of wacky throwbacks.

Rumours:

  • PS5 – This is a rumour that’s been doing the rounds for while and we’ve already written about how deeply unlikely it is to come true. Still, anything is possible!
  • Resident Evil 2 remake – We know Capcom are working on a remake of this title. We know Capcom loves Sony. It would not be a huge surprise to assume we’ll see this title during Sony’s E3 presentation. It’s been in development since 2015, so it should be ready to go sometime soon.
  • Bloodbourne 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn 2 – These are some of the wackier rumours out there. Considering we’ve heard nothing about the development of either, both would come as a surprise. Considering Horizon Zero Dawn only came out last year, this would be the bigger surprise of the two, but both seem quite unlikely at this stage. Both would be major announcements for Sony.
  • God Of War DLC – This is an inevitability at some stage, but considering the base game only just launched, it feels unlikely. Perhaps there’ll be a tease of something in the future, but don’t expect to see any gameplay for God Of War additions.

On the next page we’ll share details on what to expect from Nintendo at E3 2018.
